Can We Forestall The End Times?

Q.   What can be done to forestall the coming great events of the end times?  (I worry for those who have not heard to good news.)  I know there are unreached people and although I am really looking forward to the Rapture and being with the Lord soon and am praying for the Peace of Jerusalem, it bothers me that some will be left behind.

 

A.  Nothing can be done to forestall the coming of the End Times. They will happen just as God has determined.  No matter when the rapture takes place there will be billions of people left behind, not because God didn’t choose them but because they didn’t choose Him.  But rest assured that before they die everyone who hasn’t already rejected Him will hear the gospel and have a chance to be saved. Revelation 14:6 promises this.  No one dies in ignorance or else God is not just.

Are We Out Of Time?

Q.  I had a question about the Feast of Trumpets and it’s relation to the Rapture.  I agree that the Rapture cannot fulfill Rev. 12.   My question is: since the Second Coming would be likely to occur on the Feast of Trumpets and if you’re correct in your theory that all prophecy will be fulfilled by 2018, and we know that Daniel’s 70th week is 7 years long, should we not be looking for the Rapture to occur at or very near the Feast of Trumpets in 2011?  That would be next week.  I know I’m always looking for the Lord’s return, but the calendar math won’t add up if the Rapture takes place in, say, December.  That is, if the Second Coming is to occur by the Feast of Trumpets in 2018.

 

A.  There too many variables here to contend with.  First of all Daniel’s 70 Weeks consists of 490 years of 360 days each. That means the 70th Week will be 2520 days long, not 2556.75 . Second the Feast of Trumpets is based on the Jewish lunar calendar not our calendar, so it’s different every year.  Third, no one will know the day and hour of the 2nd Coming in advance, so counting backwards from 2018 won’t help. Fourth,  projected future feast dates are based on computer generations, not eye witness sightings as Jewish Law requires. Fifth, if we could merely  count back from the future, we could have known the exact day long ago.  Sixth the rapture is number specific not date specific.    There’s probably at least one more, but you get the idea. I prefer to say that the rapture is most likely very near and let it go at that.

What Will We Do After The Rapture?

Q.  I am confused on what the Church will be doing during the actual tribulation. If we are raptured directly into the New Jerusalem, will we be cognizant of the horrors that are happening on earth? Will we be able to see any friends/loved ones left behind and their struggles? And, at the end of the 1000 year reign, where is the church during the final battle?

 

A. The Bible doesn’t give us any real detail  on our activities after the rapture.  1 Thes. 1:10 says the Lord will rescue us from the coming wrath. The Greek word translated “from” in this passage means out of the time, the place and any relation to the wrath.  To me this means we will not have any personal involvement in the End Times judgments.  Obviously we’ll know what’s going on in the general sense, but we will not have to watch what’s happening to people we know and love.  If Hebrew wedding traditions are any indication, we’ll be on a seven year “honeymoon” with the Lord.

There really isn’t a battle at the end of the 1,000 years. As Satan gathers his forces to attack the camp of God’s people on Earth, God will send fire down from heaven and devour them all (Rev. 20:7-9).  End of story.

Why Is The Rapture Necessary?

Q. What part does the rapture play in saving us from the wrath of God, when we have already been saved from that wrath by doing what others refuse to do – Accept Jesus as our Savior.  God’s wrath falls only on the un-saved who reject Christ so why would we have to be in heaven to be protected from his wrath when there would be no reason for his wrath to fall on us?  God protected the children of Israel when he was pouring out his wrath on Egypt, can he not do this same today with his church?

 

A. The Greek word translated from in 1 Thes. 1:10 means away from the time, place or any relation to God’s wrath. So while God could protect us without removing us the Rapture is the way He has chosen to do so.

But that’s not the only reason we have to disappear. The Old and New  Covenants are theologically incompatible, so it would be  impossible for the Church to be on the Earth during Daniel’s 70th Week.  The Old covenant was interrupted seven years short of its promised duration (Daniel 9:24-27). We have to be gone to allow those last seven years to play out, giving God the time He promised Israel to fulfill its mission and giving Israel the chance to accept their Messiah (Romans 11:25) in preparation for the Kingdom Age.

No Peace After The Rapture?

Q. Re: Seven Things Part 1.  With all due respect, your order of end times event just can’t be correct.  I don’t see how the Rapture can occur prior to the Battle of Ezekiel because scripture clearly states that Israel will be living in peace and security and without walls!  The Rapture will foster anything BUT peace and security for anyone in the whole world so how then will Israel find itself peaceful for this battle to subsequently occur?  It seems to me that Psalm 83 may just provide the cloak of protection Israel needs to be able to let down it’s guard, followed at some point by the Battle of Ezekiel when Israel is living peacefully.  The Rapture may happen on the heels of this battle but I don’t see how the Rapture can occur first. There will be no peace after the Rapture.

 

A. I gave sound Biblical reasons for my view and you responded with your perception of how things will be after the rapture, something about which the Bible says nothing. I agree that Psalm 83 will probably create the conditions necessary for Israel to let down its guard, but Daniel (Daniel 8:25) Paul (1Thes. 5:3) and John (Rev. 6:2-4) all indicate a time of peace following the anti-Christ’s appearance at the beginning of Daniel’s 70th Week.  For reasons I cited, God will use Ezekiel’s Battle to bring Israel into that last 7 years and the Church has to be gone before it can begin.
